I’m Charles (Jiayi) Chen, an Automotive UI/UX/HMI designer @ Toyota North America in Dallas, TX.
2023.11 - Present
Currently at Toyota North America, I lead the design of connected audio user experiences for Toyota and Lexus, working with Spotify, SiriusXM, Amazon Music, Digital Audio Broadcasting, and more partners to create world-class in-car experiences.
I also design for navigation systems, future concept cockpits, and GR/TRD Pro brand experiences, collaborating closely with teams across Europe, Australia, and Japan to deliver solutions tailored for both left- and right-hand-drive markets.
My design work transforms mobility for millions in over 100 countries, enabling safe, seamless, and entertaining in-vehicle experiences today, and shaping the journeys of tens of millions more in the future.
2022.07 - 2023.10
At Icon Incar's Detroit studio, I design immersive in-vehicle experiences with 3D/ motion designers, product owners and HMI engineers, spanning digital clusters, infotainment, rear seat entertainment, digital HVAC, AR head-up displays, and even more smart surfaces.
My work supports Ford and Lincoln iconic models like the Bronco, Maverick, and Corsair. Combining UI/UX expertise, executive storytelling, and cross-disciplinary teamwork, I deliver intelligent, pixel-perfect designs brought to life on the road by millions of drivers.

At Savannah College of Art and Design, I dedicated myself to advancing my expertise in Interactive Design, focusing on transportation related user experience.
During this time, I collaborated with Ford Motor Company to design personalized in-vehicle UX journeys for a seamless, engaging experience.

His Mukden Palace Experience became the first in the world to win an A' Design Award in its category and has received multiple international awards, inspiring more designers to explore spatial computing.

The Disappearing Wildlife is based on two themes: stamps and Polaroids, aiming to raise awareness of endangered species through everyday items. Stamps promote endangered species and spark public attention, while Polaroids symbolize their gradual extinction, with humorous animal monologues satirizing the causes of their demise.
